William "Bill" Hoar, a cherished member of the Rochester, NH community, passed away peacefully at his home on August 9, 2025, just shy of his 98th birthday.
Born on September 7, 1927, in Woodland, Maine, Bill's life was marked by dedicated service and deep connections.
He honorably served in the U.S. Navy during two pivotal periods: from 1944 to 1946 and again from 1950 to 1952.
Following his military service, Bill contributed significantly to the nation's defense efforts, working at the Boston Naval Shipyard from 1969 to 1974 and later at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until his retirement in 1989 as a crane operator.
In his 36 years of retirement, Bill embraced the Rochester community wholeheartedly.
He was a familiar face at local breakfast spots, where he enjoyed daily gatherings with friends and neighbors.
Bill is survived by his son, Bill, and grandson, Billy, both residing in Topeka, Kansas, and his daughter, Sally, of Rochester, NH.
He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his two sisters.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Wentworth Homecare & Hospice, especially Melinda, Emily, Sarah, and Christa, for their compassionate care.
Bill was blessed with a circle of friends he considered family, including Mike Thornton, Mike Bedard, Glenn and Maryellen Parker, Jessi and Zach Wedgeworth, Matt and Nicole Parker, George and Paula Kathios, and their children: Ryan, Andrew, Hannah, Warren, Cameron, and his favorite little helper, Tatum Brennan.
There are many more whose lives he touched, too numerous to list.
In place of a public service, a private celebration of life will be held at the family's convenience.
