James S. McCallion, affectionately known as "Mac," passed away on August 12, 2025, at the age of 78, following a brief illness.

 

Born on June 6, 1947, in Rochester, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late Neil and Bertha Mae (Scott) McCallion.

 

Jim graduated from Spaulding High School in 1965 and was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

 

After his military service, he dedicated 40 years to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, working in Shop 71.

 

In retirement, Jim cherished monthly breakfasts with fellow retirees.

 

He was deeply involved in the community, coaching Little League baseball and softball, and serving as president of the Rochester Girls Softball League.

 

Jim was also a lifetime member of the Rochester Elks Lodge.

 

He is survived by his wife, Linda (Gennari) McCallion of Rochester; his daughter, Jodi McCallion of Rochester; stepchildren Heidi Rodenhuis of Rochester, Mark Main of Milton, Matthew Main and wife Maria of Rochester, and Jeffrey McCallion and wife Kim of Manchester; along with several nieces and nephews.

 

Jim was a loving grandfather to Sierra, Evan, Mason, Jacqueline, Cassandra, Zachary, and Cooper.

 

A celebration of life will be held at the Rochester Elks Lodge on September 21, 2025, beginning at 1 PM.
